Behind every wedding there is that perfectly planned proposal that leaves every woman with no choice but to cover her mouth in shock and joyfully or tearfully say “Yes.” This is not your general idea of proposal which is to buy a ring and get down on one knee and voice the famous traditional line, “Will you marry me?”
No! In the 21st century, a man has got to endlessly scratch his head and will his mind to come up with authentic ideas the universe has never seen in order for that expensive ring to be accepted.
Most girls admit to fantasizing about those moments. A breakfast chat with a couple of Uganda Christian University students yielded the following day dream ways of proposal.
“The way men are disappointing these days, I have learnt to keep my expectations on a low. But the introvert that I am would like something personal wrapped with so much depth and I don’t mean a gift. I just want him to explain why he loves me, why he is choosing me amongst all and what about me stands out for him. I want to see some emotional tears when I look into his eyes that move me to cry too and accept him, “Joan. 22.
“I just imagine he is already used to dates but then, on that one day, he organizes this special cute date single handed. He makes my favorite meal which I yet I knew he cooked nor had an idea of my likes. Then he leads me to this candle lit room and there is music of my favorite song playing in the back ground then, he proposes,” Shamim. 21.
“I want him to dress as my favorite movie character, James Bond, stage for me a fake kidnap scenario, and while I am beginning to freak out, I hear fake gunshots from outside and he walks in with a toy pistol that has a ring looped on its tip. I would laugh so hard and definitely accept after pretending to be a little mad,” Sera 22.
“I for one, love surprises. I would not want to see it coming. However the surprise for me lies in the photography. I imagine he proposes well and good, and I am shocked. But what if he pretends that there were no photographers and then boom, the next day he returns with all these beautiful pictures and admits there was a secret photographer? That would be the icing on the cake,” Audrey. 22.
“The way I love those High school musicals, I would want him to show some singing and dancing skills in public, in spite of how hilarious he may look. I would want all of this recorded so that I and my kids laugh at it in the future,” Sharon. 22.
“I love adventure. I imagine someone is driving us really fast, and the car roof is open, so we stand and let the wind slap our faces, then he screams at the top of his voice amidst all the noise As I’m squinting, trying to hear him, he pulls out the ring, I accept and we ululate in the wind,” Lilly. 22.
“I am weird. I have always imagined having a handsome stalker who finds out everything about me and finally finds me in some place someday, introduces himself, tells me all the right things about me, expresses his feelings in the most poetic way, then finally proposes. I swear I will not refuse,” Lamunu. 22
“I would want him to befriend my best friend and through her, they gather all my other friends and family in one place without my knowledge. It should be on a day that is easy to remember like my birthday so that I first think we are going to celebrate something else, then he proposes,” Claire 21.
“First of all I want to marry a creative person. Someone that can either dedicate a full novel about me or write like seven poems proposing to me. I don’t care if there is no ring because those books are engagement enough,” Olivia.22.
“I wish for a proposal where everything is going wrong for me that day; like it rains on me, work is terrible etc. and then he brightens up my entire life by proposing at the end of the day,” Nabbosa. 23.
“We could get drunk together then in our high moments, he proposes and we drink more beer to that. I wake up when I have forgotten and then, I see the ring on my finger and he explains how dumb I looked the night before,” Natasha.22.
