Weddings are days to celebrate a bride and groom, but also the victory of parents whose children have reached this milestone. On this day, children take some time to give a heart-to-heart to their parents.
On Saturday February 19, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s daughter Dr Angela Nagasha Kakishozi introduced Gen Henry Tumukunde’s son Amanya Tumukunde in Lyantonde District.
While addressing the guests at his sister’s kuhingira, Nagasha’s brother Joel recounted his most fond childhood memories with his sister and their father.
“Our father made it a point to never talk politics with us, the only important things that mattered were how we were, how school was going, and what cartoons we were currently watching. Of course, as we grew older, the conversation matured,” he stated.
He also thanked their father for loving them and protecting them and grooming them.
“To us, he was just papa, the father, and the occasional farmer. Thank you papa for protecting us from your work and for being such an amazing father to us. From a young age, papa always told us to believe in ourselves and to challenge ourselves. If we didn’t challenge ourselves, he challenged us,” Joel stated.
He also narrated how Mzee always found time amidst his busy schedule to discuss the courses they were pursuing.
“Every time we would come back from University, Papa would ask us questions about our courses. Angela and I would sit there in shock as we wondered where this man found time to study about the theory of rocket science and organic chemistry,” he narrated.
He added, “We didn’t realise he was improving the way we communicate our ideas. He would always say if you can explain the content of your course to a mere farmer, then you fully understand the material. So Angela and I were always excited to get back from school and discuss the courses we had taken”.
He also thanked mzee for believing in them.
“Thank you papa for always believing in us and for pushing us to challenge ourselves. Thank you papa for always providing all the tools we needed to chase our dreams whether it was financially by getting us through school; with your never-ending words of wisdom and encouragement every time we got back from school,” he stated.
He also revealed his sister Angela has two degrees in medicine and that he will soon attain his second degree in engineering.
“Angela has two degrees in medicine and I will have two degrees in engineering very soon. And we are both working in our respective fields. An we owe all this to God, and secondly to the amazing parents,”
