On March,10 just a day to her wedding, 24-year-old bride, Bushira Najjuuko, a resident of Katereke, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district was reported missing by her mother, Aisha Nalukenge, who said she disappeared on March 10, 2023, at 9am on her way to a bridal makeup shop in Nakivubo, Kampala where she was headed for henna treatment.
Two days after the incident, Najjuuko reported herself to Nsangi police station.
“She told Police that she was not interested in the man the family wants her to get married to. Najjuko told Police that instead she was interested in another man whom the family doesn’t want,” Onyango said.
In the statement recorded at police, the 24 year old said she decided to disappear to show the family that she is only interested in the man they don’t want and could do anything to prove this to the parents.
“She told Police that she bought the shoes and dresses with the money the family gave her for shopping and she sent a boda boda rider to take them home to show them that she doesn’t want the man.”
In her statement, the girl told Nsangi police that whereas she was feared missing she on Saturday decided to go to a friend’s home in Zana where she stayed all this time.
She was however handed over to the parents but the Police spokesperson warned parents against forcing children into marriage.
“We appeal to parents not force their children into marriage that they don’t want.
